Jacksonville Looks at Animals

Jacksonville Looks at Animals

A community exhibition showcasing photos by people of Jacksonville and why they choose to look at animals.

February 22 – March 29, 2009

Jacksonville Looks at Animals will be a community exhibition that draws from an on-line digital photography contest in partnership with the Florida Times-Union. Photograph your favorite animals at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, animals in the wild, or your favorite pet. Each photo entered by a member of the community will be accompanied with a brief statement about why they were looking at this particular animal. The community exhibition opening will be celebrated with a Community FunDay at the Museum on February 22, 2009, providing a broad range of free, family-focused activities that will invite creative expression and response to both the exhibitions. The community will consist of approximately 100 photographs presented at MOCA, the Jacksonville Public Library – Main Library, and The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach.

The community photos will be selected by a combination of the Jacksonville public through voting online at www.jacksonville.com and by a selection committee of Florida Times-Union photographers and MOCA Jacksonville Associate Curator Ben Thompson.

Contest rules, entry guidelines, and more information on the community photo exhibition can be found on www.jacksonville.com starting December 15th. Final entries must be submitted on-line by January 4th 2009.

For more information, contact the MOCA Education Department at (904) 366-6911 ext. 212 or email cfitzpatrick[at]mocajacksonville.org.
